About me:
My love of the natural world grew when I was a child living in the Welsh countryside first right next to a beach and later on a farm. This provided ample opportunities to explore nature, from the rock pools to the woods and hedgerows; and very quickly I developed a fascination with the biodiversity that surrounded me.
I was born in London, but spent my early life growing up in South-West Wales, and my schools years were spent in Gloucestershire where I attended the Acorn School in Nailsworth from the ages of 9 to 18 years. Despite always having a passion for the environment, it wasn't until I travelled to the rainforest in Borneo 2009 that I established with a certainty that zoology was the career path that I wanted to enter into. Seeing the masses of stunning biodiversity coupled with the logging of the rainforest inspired a desire to better understand the subject, and the importance of conservation.
University has only increased my love of the subject, widely expanding my understanding and experience by providing many inspiring modules, lab practicals, field trip opportunities, and research projects. My current third year project is: Parasite transmission dynamics in bumblebee communicates - do 'key hosts' vary according to habitat?' which I am working on with fellow student Laura Telford, under Lena Bayer-Wilfert, project supervisor.
My hobbies outside of my education are photography, art and sports; and having travelled much around Europe, Morocco, Thailand and Malaysia, I aspire to continue my travelling experience and my learning of cultures and their environments.

Volunteering:
Future Light Orphanage - Thailand ~ 2011
In 2011 I went out to Thailand to visit Future Light, a shelter for children right on the Burmese border that provided food, clothing, safety and an education. As a volunteer I assisted in teaching, cooking, cleaning, building a kitchen, but most of all just spending time with the children. I found it very humbling to see the enjoyment these children got from playing games with the most basic material they could find, generally always happy and smiling - it certainty altered my outlook on life!
